The wonder of the large, the empty void
Of space unending, pictured in the mind,
Is Lillipution, tiny, set beside
Reality. No human thought can span
Immensity beyond the grasp of man.
The wonder of the small, a universe
Where, flouting the established rule of sense,
Normality takes on another form,
Whose difference is not in scale alone,
Whirling unseen in every stick or stone.
Wonder is fleeting, born of a pensive moment,
Fragile and light, it cannot long survive
The grainy texture of the here and now,
The trickle of the minutes through the day.
Though welcome in the mind, it will not stay.
